The Islamic School of Seattle offers preschool through sixth grade in a nurturing Islamic environment. Classrooms are mixed-age, child-centered and organized for coorperative, active learning. Instruction for children two and a half through five is bilingual and Montessori based. Arabic instruction continues through the school years.
Diversity for us in a hallmark of excellence. Our purpose is not to islolate but to prepare children for participation and leardership in the wilder society while fostering a helathy, authentic sense of identitiy.
Our Vision
"To respect, nourish and guide to fruition the pure nature (fitrah) bestowed by Allah (SWT) upon every child."
The Islamic school of Seattle is located in the Central Area, just east of downtown with easy access from North, South and Eastside neighborhooDS. It occupies the block between Cherry and Columbia on 25th Avenue. It is an old, but solidly built, historic building that originally housed a Jewish day school. There is a spacious gymnasium, a large outdoor area for play, and a children's library with more than 10,000 books.
All classes have frequent field trips including visits to museums, exhibits and plays. Students do community service projects. They regularly visit and help in a day shelter for older homeless people. During Ramadan they collect food and money for the needy.

Some students join in evening sport. Others participate in weekend youth programs. Students are also closely involved with the urban, non-Muslim community of which they are an integral part.
We participate in many neighborhood activities including peaceful demonstration. Each year we participate in the Martin Luther King parade which originates from near our school.
Our after school program offers special classes and enrichment activities. Events such potluck dinners, Ramadan activities, picnics, math nights, and bazaars contribute to the family-like atmosphere.
